Department Overview

Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2008 with an annual intake of 60 students. The Department provides an outstanding research environment with the aid of qualified faculty. The faculty in the department consists of senior and well experienced Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors with Ph.D/M. Tech and B. Tech Qualifications. Besides, theoretical research, faculty in the department also network with many reputed national and international societies and are involved in a number of projects in the areas of cutting-edge technologies. The department deals with career focused attributes to empower students to excel in their fields. It nurtures the students with quality education, pre-placement training, add-on courses, internships, and industrial visits which will help them to acquire all the employability skills and make them industry ready.

The Department has well-equipped laboratories consisting of the state-of-the-art servers & computers - used by the students of second, third and the final years. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide good practical learning and innovative environment for the students and researchers.

Students are nurtured with a variety of learning activities including and not restricted to class room teaching, presentations, video lectures, experiential learning, Swayam NPTEL and other MOOC online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe. Students are encouraged to take up industry-oriented projects, participate in hackathons and coding competitions.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The Graduates of the Information Technology programme after three to five years of Graduation will acquire the ability to

PEO1: Become entrepreneurs, employees of reputed organizations and pursue higher studies and research for developing advanced skills in Information Technology.

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics natural science, and engineering sciences.

3. Design / development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or process that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, society and environmental consideration.

4. Conduct Investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

In today’s technological era, Information Technology (IT) has become the most indispensable part and parcel of human society. As a result, it has become one of the most popular fields in education and career.

The Department of Information Technology presently offers a four-year B.Tech degree programme in Information Technology. The department is committed to nurture the professional skills of the students with thriving innovation eco-system and make them tech-savvy and industry-ready. The department has a team of well-qualified faculty members with specialization in wider areas and dedicated supporting staff in providing a well-balanced professional development to the students. Additionally, we have specialized trainers from industry who visit the department from time to time and handle industry-centric add-on courses.

The department has been achieving consistently good academic results. Most of our alumni have been placed in top-notch companies. The department has state of the art laboratories, and centers of excellence that provides a stimulating intellectual environment for the students and faculty to carry out innovative project and product developments and engage them in continuous learning and research.

The aspiration of the department is not only to make the students as the technocrats, but also as responsible citizens, who are going to be the inspiration for future generations, with human values and ethics. The department provides a right blend of academic, corporate and extracurricular activities to transform an individual into a well groomed professional.

HOD Profile

Dr.S.Jayanthi, Associate Professor & HoD, Department of Information Technology, received her Ph.D from Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Coimbatore, in 2017 and Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University in 2009. She has 14 years of teaching experience. Her research interests include Data Mining, Neural Networks and Big Data analytics.So far she has published 45 research papers, and 3 patents in various national, International conferences and high indexed journals. She has delivered invited talks in various national and international conferences, seminars and IIC events. She has served as an editorial board member and reviewer committee member for many international journals.

She has received a Best Faculty Award from Nehru Group of Institutions, Coimbatore in the year 2019. She has been an active member in many professional bodies, such as, IEEE, MISSE, MISTE, etc. She attended more than 15 FDP’s, 8 workshops, 12 conferences and 30+ webinars. She has been a convener for 40 seminars, 7 National/International conferences and 12 workshops. She acts as Chairman of Board of studies, coordinator in NAAC, IQAC, NBA, Swayam SPOC, University Affiliation, NIRF and ARIIA.

Labs & Facilities

Data Structures Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to practice data structures like stacks, queues and linked lists, implement searching and sorting algorithms, and acquire knowledge about applications of data structures. Students are made familiar with C, C++, JAVA programming and its applications. The latest platforms/compilers are provided to the students to run the programs.

Operating Systems Lab

This lab has provided a platform to the students to the study of different operating systems such as windows 98/ME/XP, Unix & Linux. The objective of this lab is to provide a practical exposure to students to simulate and implement operating system concepts such as scheduling, deadlock management, file management and memory management. Students also get trained on the implementation of various operating system concepts such as scheduling, deadlock management, file management and memory management. The latest platforms/compilers are provided to the students to run the programs.

Database Management Systems Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to work on practical experiments, projects and research work, related to courses such as Database Management Systems, Big Data Analysis. etc. The requirement of modern days is to have an automated system that manages, modifies and updates data accurately. This is achieved by a Database Management System in robust, correct and non redundant way. Through DBMS laboratory, students will get knowledge about the database environment, a way to manage data and access the data quickly and efficiently. The latest platforms and MySQL are provided to the students to run the programs.

Java Programming Lab

This lab reinforces the understanding of basic object oriented programming concepts (objects, classes and subclasses, methods) and their expressions in Java. Students get trained to analyze and design solution for real world problems based on object-oriented principles and write simple Graphical User Interface (GUI) interfaces. This lab imparts hands on experience on abstract classes, java collection frame work, multithread concepts, java swing components with java compiler and eclipse platform.

Software Engineering Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to get hands on experience in developing a software project by using various software engineering principles and methods in each of the phases of software development. Students will be trained to translate end-user requirements into system and software requirements, generate a high-level design of the system from the software requirements and develop a simple testing report. The latest platforms and Star UML are provided to the students to run the programs.

Computer Networks & Web Programming Lab

The lab is dedicated to provide a practical exposure to learn the concepts of computer networking, networking layers and acquire practical notions of various communication protocols. Students get trained to analyze the traffic flow and the contents of protocol frames, implement data link layer farming methods, and Encoding and Decoding techniques and routing.The latest platforms, XAMPP server, and JDK 16 are provided to develop web applications.

Compiler Construction Lab

This lab is dedicated to provide a hands-on experience to design, develop, and implement a compiler, use lex and yacc tools for developing a scanner and a parser and design LL and LR parsers. This lab provides a platform to understand the process by which programs written in high-level languages are translated and executed.

Information Security Lab

Information security is of critical importance in this generation of digital communication using telephone lines and computer networks. The objective of this laboratory is to provide hands on experience on performing various types of encryption and decryption process such as Ceaser cipher, Substitution cipher, Hill Cipher, etc. Students are trained on implementing various security algorithms such as DES algorithm, Blowfish algorithm, Rijndael algorithm, RC4 logic, RSA algorithm, Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange, SHA-1 algorithm and MD5 algorithm.

Field Visits

T.V.V.P Community Health Center, Ibrahimpatnam, Rangareddy, Telangana

The students interacted with the Duty doctor, Nurses, and other staff members and collected the problems in providing services to the patients. The students also interacted with the patients admitted in the hospital and got to know their real-life problems.
