Department Overview

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science program with an intake of 60 was introduced in the year 2021. Due to high demand, the department has increased the intake of B.Tech.(Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) programs from 60 to 120 in the year 2022 and from 120 to 180 in the year 2023.
The department has highly qualified faculty members with minimum M. Tech qualification with specialization in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Technology, Data Science, Machine learning and Software Engineering.
The department has cutting-edge laboratories with the most up-to-date configuration systems, which aids in the development of students' programming skills.
The Department provides high-quality technical education that is based on research, to help students develop innovative skills, and to enhancing academic activities via ongoing development of the teaching and learning process. Students are nurtured with a variety of learning activities including and not restricted to classroom teaching, presentations, video lectures, experiential learning, Swayam NPTEL and other MOOC online courses by faculty in the institute and across the globe. Students are encouraged to take up industry-oriented projects, participate in hackathons and coding competitions at national and international level.

Engineering Graduate will be able to:

1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving. Data science is the field of study that combines domain expertise, programming skills, and knowledge of mathematics and statistics to extract meaningful insights from data. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is an interdisciplinary branch of science, engineering and technology creating a complete ecosystem and a paradigm shift in virtually every sector of the technical industry, academics and research. B-Tech Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is a 4 years undergraduate degree program which emphasizes comprehensive knowledge of programming, machine learning, artificial intelligence, network security, database management system and many other recent fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science which are required by any Software and IT companies. B.Tech. Dr. Sheetal Kundra is the esteemed Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology. With a robust academic background and extensive experience of 19 years in academics. Dr. Sheetal Kundra completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from IKGPTU, Punjab where she specialized in Artificial Intelligence. Her research interests include machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and big data analytics. Dr. Sheetal Kundra has published numerous papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, contributing significantly to the advancement of AI and Data Science. Dr. Sheetal Kundra has designed and delivered courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervised student research projects and thesis, and provided guidance on academic and career-related matters. She is highly committed to advancing the state of the art in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and preparing the next generation of computer scientists and engineers for successful careers in industry and academia.

Mrs. G Celestina is working as an Associate Professor of the Department of Emerging Technologies at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. She completed her B.Sc CS from St. Pious X Degree and PG college ,Hyderabad in 2001, M.Sc CS from A.V College , Hyderabad in 2003, and M Tech . CS from T R R College of Engineering, Hyderabad in 2010. She has 15 years of teaching experience.

Mr. K. Naveen Kumar is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (Autonomous) Hyderabad. He did his B.Tech from JNTU-ANANTHAPUR and completed his M.Tech in Software Engineering, from Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College (JNTUA). Mr. Mahesh Kumar K is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He holds a B.Tech in Computer Engineering from JNTUH and M-Tech in Computer Sciences from Sri Indu Engineering College-JNTUH. Rohit Jain is working as Assistant Professor in Department of Emerging Technologies at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology. He completed his BE CSE from BIST-RGPV Bhopal in 2010 and ME CSE from UIT-RGPV Bhopal in 2015. He has 07 years of teaching experience and qualified GATE exam multiple times. He has presented and published one paper in international conference published by Mc Graw Hill Education. His research interest includes Metaheuristic Techniques for NP hard problems, Soft Computing Techniques and interdisciplinary areas.

Data Structures Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to practice data structures like stacks, queues and linked lists, implement searching and sorting algorithms, and acquire knowledge about applications of data structures. Students are made familiar with C, C++, JAVA programming and its applications. The latest platforms/compilers are provided to the students to run the programs.

Object Oriented Programming through Java Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to practice to develop programs with reusability Develop programs for file handling, handle exceptions in programming, develop applications for a range of problems using object-oriented programming techniques. This lab reinforces the understanding of basic object-oriented programming concepts (objects, classes and subclasses, methods) and their expressions in Java. Students get trained to analyse and design solutions for real world problems based on object-oriented principles and write simple Graphical User Interface (GUI) interfaces. This lab imparts hands on experience on abstract.

Operating Systems Lab

This lab has provided a platform to the students to study different operating systems such as windows 98/ME/XP, Unix & Linux. The objective of this lab is to provide practical exposure to students to simulate and implement operating system concepts such as scheduling, deadlock management, file management and memory management. Students also get trained on the implementation of various operating system concepts such as scheduling, deadlock management, file management and memory management. The latest platforms/compilers are provided to the students to run the programs.

Database Management Systems Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to work on practical experiments, projects and research work, related to courses such as Database Management Systems, Big Data Analysis. etc. The requirement of modern days is to have an automated system that manages, modifies and updates data accurately. This is achieved by a Database Management System in robust, correct and non redundant way. Through DBMS laboratory, students will get knowledge about the database environment, a way to manage data and access the data quickly and efficiently. The latest platforms and MySQL are provided to the students to run the programs.

Software Engineering Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to get hands on experience in developing a software project by using various software engineering principles and methods in each of the phases of software development. Students will be trained to translate end-user requirements into system and software requirements, generate a high-level design of the system from the software requirements and develop a simple testing report. The latest platforms and Star UML are provided to the students to run the programs.

Machine Learning Lab

This lab is dedicated for students to get hands on experience in Understand the concepts of computational intelligence like machine learning Ability to get the skill to apply machine learning techniques to address real-time problems in different areas Understand the Neural Networks and their usage in machine learning applications.

Software Testing Methodologies Lab

The lab is dedicated to provide a practical exposure to learn the concepts The students should be able to: Gain knowledge of phases in the life cycle of software development, project organization, project control and process instrumentation Analyze the major and minor milestones, artifacts and metrics from management and technical perspective Design and develop software product using conventional and modern principles of software project management.

THE DEBUGGING GAUNTLET - 2025

The Data Pioneers Club of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science proudly presents THE DEBUGGING GAUNTLET, a premier event designed to test and enhance your debugging skills. Whether you are an aspiring programmer or a seasoned developer, this competition provides a platform to refine your problem-solving abilities, improve your logical thinking, and gain hands-on experience in identifying and fixing errors efficiently.

Participants were given real-world coding scenarios with bugs, and their task was to debug and optimize the code within the given time frame. This event not only challenged technical expertise but also enhanced analytical thinking and efficiency under pressure—crucial skills for any software developer or data scientist.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a total of 90+ participants competing from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students. The competition was judged by Ms. Sheetal Kundra (HOD) and Ms. Celestina (Associate Lecturer). The event coordinator was Mr. Anzar Iqbal.

Event Format

  • Participants were given a set of coding problems containing intentional bugs.
  • The challenge ran for 2 hours, during which participants had to debug and optimize the code.
  • Each correct solution earned points. Winners were determined based on the highest scores achieved within the time limit.
  • The difficulty level increased progressively, testing adaptability and advanced debugging skills.
  • Speed and accuracy were key—participants who debugged efficiently had the edge.

Exciting Cash Prizes for Winners

To recognize and reward the best problem-solvers, the top three performers received cash prizes as follows:

  • 1st Place – ₹1200
  • 2nd Place – ₹800
  • 3rd Place – ₹600

This challenge served as an excellent platform to test debugging expertise, compete with talented peers, and win exciting rewards. If you have a keen eye for spotting errors and a passion for coding, this was the perfect opportunity to showcase your skills!
